Desperately seeking a photo of my great uncle Private Percival Gordon Fry.
I tripped over a photo on Beresford.org website purporting to be my grandpa Maurice Leslie Fry & his brother, Percival Gordon Fry.
I contacted the website administrator & the distant cousin from England, upon whose advice it was placed on the site.
The photo was uploaded in good faith.
On the back of the photo was written "Australian Cousins".
Jean from England was into genealogy & believed the photo to be the Fry brothers.
I emailed the Australian War Museum & they indicated one of the soldiers had an "A" on the shoulder of his uniform, indicating he was an ANZAC of 2015. My great uncle left for WWI on the HMAT Hororata A20 in Nov 1916 & grandpa left on the HMAT Ballarat A70 in Feb 1917. Hence one of the soldiers isn't my grandpa or my great uncle.
It does leave me with a lingering feeling that one of the soldiers could still be my great uncle, Percival Gordon Fry.
My family knows little about Percival Gordon Fry nor do we have any photos.
Grandpa named his son born on ANZAC day after Percival Gordon Fry: Raymond Percival Fry.
