George Clark enlisted at 17 years and ten months during May 1918. He was one of 10 children; his family having come out to Australia from England in early 1914. His mother Alice had passed away soon after and George’s father, William Joseph Clark, enlisted in 1915 at the age of 45 and was killed in action at Mouquet Farm in 1916.
His aunt was his guardian and she stated on William Joseph Clark’s roll of honour form that George had enlisted previously but was taken out of camp by another sister as he was under age.
His two older brothers, 3783 Pte William Walter Clark MM, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion and 4765 Private John Clark 15th Battalion AIF, both enlisted and returned to Australia during 1919.
George Clark arrived in England in time for his 18th birthday but never made it to France before the Armistice and returned to Australia during July 1919.
