WHITE, Percy Frederick (1898-1973)
Percy Frederick White was born at Mount Duneed on 12 March 1898, the son of Frederick Arthur White and Isabel Maude nee Bowman. He was enrolled at Geelong College in February 1912 as a day student after previously attending Swanston Street State School, Geelong. At entry his address was Ryrie Street East, Geelong. He left the College in September 1915.
He enlisted (No. 38050) in the AIF on 4 April 1917, and embarked on HMAT A15 Port Sydney on 9 November 1917 for France, arriving there on 8 April 1918. He joined the 7th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) on 15 April, where he served through the last year of the war. He was wounded in action, suffering a gunshot wound to the chest on 19 September 1918 after which he was evacuated to Charing Cross Hospital on 25 October. He was then invalided back to Australia on HS Morvada, embarking on 4 January 1919.
His brother, Max Andrew White (1896-1970), was also educated at Geelong College.
