Biography contributed by Netta Blatchford

Henry Fawdon WHITTLE joined the AIF on 17.08.1915 at Adelaide. He was given the Service Number 1847 and attached to A Company, 2nd Depot Battalion, Exhibition Camp, Adelaide. He embarked from Adelaide on HAMT Borda on 11.01.1916

He started off in 32nd Battalion, but was transferred to a few different Battalions.

On 06.03.1916 he was transferred to 15th Battalion at Zeitoun.

He was promoted to Temporary Corporal and Bombardier on 12.10.1917 in France. He fought with 48th Battalion and 4th Division Artillery. He was also taken on strength with 24th Howitzer Brigade.

In June 1918 he went to Horse Management School (some Vet training) for a fortnight. This is possibly because the Howitzers may have been pulled by horses. He fought in France till the end of the war. At this stage he was a full Corporal.

He left England on 13.03.1919 and returned to Australia, arriving home in Adelaide on 06.06.1919.
