At the time of enlistment he was residing in Hutchinson Street, St. Peters, NSW.
Son of James Unsworth and Annie Unsworth of Warwick Street, Pendlebury, Manchester, England.
7 March 1916 - enlisted at Sydney, NSW in the 19th Battalion with the rank of Private
20 September 1917 - wounded. Wounds to the head and left leg
11 October 1918 - transferred to the 17th Battalion
Commenced return to Australia on 5 September 1919 aboard HT Plassy disembarking on 30 October 1919
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
29 November 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District
In 1923c James married Irene L. Boyd in Newtown, NSW
