Add my storyBiography
Harold Sanderson was born in 1892. His young life was spent at Mount Perry, then a gold and copper mining town inland from Bundaberg.
When the gold mines ceased operation in the late 1890’s, the family moved to Byrnestown District, about 25 miles away, where they settled on the land.
Harold followed the occupation of a teamster and timber cutter. In May 1916 as a young man he received a letter which contained a white feather. The letter was posted near Biggenden, Queensland.(A white feather denoted in the 1914-1918 War a symbol of cowardice). He then enlisted in the A.I.F. on the 30th May 1916 at Maryborough.
Sadly he was killed in action when stuck by an artillery shell and his remains buried in the bomb crater on the battlefield.
He was survived by his parents,William and Jane, his brothers Albert and George and his sisters Ada, Florence, Muriel, Ruby Annie and Jessie.
