Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
Bernard FOX (Service Number 11960) born in County Armagh, Ireland, in 1880 (according to the NSWGR record). He joined the Railways as a fuelman at Wellington in May 1912. In April 1913 he became a (locomotive) tube cleaner there. In September 1915 he enlisted in the AIF at Dubbo. If the Railways’ records are correct, he understated his age by 10 years when he enlisted!
On 12 October 1917 he was killed in action in Belgium and buried ‘in the vicinity of Zonnebeke’.

At the time of enlistment he was employed with the Railways Department

His mother wrote to Base Records stating:-
I would be very glad if you could give me any information about him. My heart is broken about him. I did not think the almighty would have been so hard with me as to take him from me for he was as good a child as ever God made. I have wrote different places and can't get no news.

Bernard FOX (Service Number 11960) was born in County Armagh, Ireland, in 1880. He joined the Railways as a fuelman at Wellington in May 1912. In April 1913 he became a (locomotive) tube cleaner there.
In September 1915 he enlisted in the AIF at Dubbo. If the Railways’ records are correct, he understated his age by 10 years when he enlisted!
He was allotted to the 9th Field Ambulance. He left Sydney in May 1916 and was sent to England, where he landed in July. In November 1916 he was sent to France.
On 12th October 1917 killed in action in Belgium. He is buried ‘in the vicinity of Zonnebeke’.
The place could not subsequently be located, and he has no known grave. He is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. A war pension was granted to his mother in Armagh.
