Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
Joseph BRENNAN, (Service Number 1312) was born on 5 April 1890 at Kilkenny, Ireland. He commenced working for the NSW Railways as a labourer in the Per-Way Branch in the Western Division. In the following year he was working specifically on the section between Dubbo and Nyngan, then Byrock to Brewarrina and in 1915 between Dubbo and Coonamble.
He embarked from Brisbane on 13 February 1915 on HMAT ‘Seang Bee’ with the 9th Infantry Battalion
Although his railway card records that he was killed in action on 10 January 1917, in fact he died of wounds in Egypt on 4 July 1915 and is buried in the Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery, at Alexandria.

His brother, Regimental Company Sergeant Major THOMAS VINCENT BRENNAN, M.M., and Mentioned in Despatches of the 5th Light Horse and Cambefield Ambulance, Australian Imperial Force, 2nd Australian Light Horse Field Ambulance, Australian Camel Field Ambulance and Australian Army Medical Corps, also served and is also honoured on the Kilkenny, MacDonagh StationKilkenny World War I Memorial.
