David Harper was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal in 1919 for his service as a Sergeant Mechanic with the Australian Flying Corps.
His younger brother, 675 Lce. Cpl. Roy Bayles Harper 40th Battalion AIF had died of wounds in France 12 February 1917, aged 21.
Another younger brother 5109 Pte. Reuben Henry Harper 52nd Battalion AIF was awarded a Military Medal for bravery in 1917.
They were the sons of Thomas Duncan and Elizabeth Harper, of Elderslie, Tasmania.
