ERIC RUSSELL was born on 14th April, 1898, at Elsternwick, Victoria, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Russell. He was educated at the Brighton Grammar School, and the Church of England Grammar School, Melbourne. He joined the service of the Bank at Flinders Street West, Melbourne, on 14th May, 1916.
Eric Russell enlisted on 24th February, 1917. He left Australia on 16th July, 1917, and was in France until 18th February, 1919, joining his unit (the 58th Battalion) on 1st January, 1918, and gaining promotion to corporal in the following September. He returned to Australia in January, 1920, and was discharged on 16th February.
