Biography contributed by Chris Buckley
Frank was the sixth of eleven children of Ernest Marlin (born 1856 in Richmond, NSW) and Laura Anne Kennedy (born 1859 in Richmond, NSW). In 1875, as a member of the Richmond Volunteer Rifles (Regimental No:7886), Ernest received a Land Grant. He was a Carpenter and Builder in 1877 when he married Laura in Richmond NSW. Ernest and Laura settled in Richmond and raised their family - Ernest was known as a keen athlete and cricketer, and was one of the oldest members of the Richmond Branch of the Manchester Unity Order of Oddfellows. In 1894 he expanded the family business to provide funeral services, including coffins. His eldest son Fred was eighteen years of age in 1896 when he hung himself in his father's business premises. Ernest died in 1915.
Frank was a Labourer at Main Camp, Mt Crosby in Ipswich, QLD - and stated he had served five years with the 3rd Regiment NSW - when he enlisted in the AIF in August 1915. He was a Private (Service No:3154) with 9th and 49th Battalions and was KiA near Pozieres, France in September 1916. Frank's brother Bob (Trooper, Service No:548) served in the Boer War; and brothers Albert (Private, Sevice No:3140); Archie (Private, Service No:2728) KiA in 1918 at Villers Bretonneux in France; and Bernard (Sergeant, Service No:1025) also served in WWI.
