On the 29th August 1969, Sapper William Muir, 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company (Reg No-5787), labourer from Newtown, Minmi, New South Wales and Gosford, N.S.W. died age 82 years 9 months.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 11th November 1886 to William, died 4.10.1927, Minmi, N.S.W., age 80, buried at Minmi Cemetery, N.S.W., Left Hand Side, Section 15, Plot 068, from Newtown, Minmi, New South Wales, and Agnes Muir nee Lorimer, died 29.11.1927, Minmi, N.S.W., age 78, mother of 7?, sleeping at Minmi Cemetery, N.S.W., Left Hand Side, Section 15, Plot 068, from Newtown, Minmi, New South Wales.

William enlisted on the 1st May 1916 with the Tunnelling Companies Reinforcements, age 29 years 5 months, at West Maitland, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 25th October 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 28.12.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 28.1.1917.

Taken on Strength 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company 19.4.1917.

Wounded in action - 12.3.1918 (gas).

Commenced return to Australia 7.7.1919.

William arrived home on the 8th September 1919, being discharged on the 23rd October 1919.

Mr. Muir’s name has also been inscribed on the Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.
