Biography contributed by Rob Gray

Joined the AIF on the same day as his brother Stephen George and was, with his brother, assigned to A Coy, 29th Bn. John was allocated 364 as his regimental number. He was entered as a Corporal, presumably in respect of his considerable pre-war service in the Citizens Forces - four years’ service with the 6th Australian Infantry Regiment and four years with No. 5 Battery, Australian Field Artillery.

John never married. He had a close relationship with his brother's - William Joseph White - son, William Paul White, who served in the 2/1st Machine Gun Battalion in the Second World War.

John is buried with his mother - Annie Josephine White, died 29 May 1919 - and his older sister, Louisa May, who predeceased him on 11 June 1904.
