An Original Anzac who served during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

62 years ago today, on the 7th July 1961, Private Arthur Hyde, Australian Imperial Force Headquarters, Egypt (Reg No. 2086), carpenter and mechanic from 811 King Street, Tempe, New South Wales and Newcastle?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 65. METHODIST 4-28. 56.

Died on the 5th July 1961 at Parramatta, N.S.W.
Born at St Peters, New South Wales on the 9th November 1895 to Alfred R and Elizabeth Rosina Hyde; husband of Anne Hyde nee? (married?, died 2.4.1981, sleeping here), Arthur enlisted on the 1st October 1914 with the 7th Australian Light Horse Regiment at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A33 Ayrshire on the 20th December 1914.
Wounded in action - 28.6.1915 (GSW right leg, knee, slight).

Arthur returned home on the 9th September 1915, being discharged medically unfit (GSW leg) on the 5th August 1916.

Reenlisted 21st September 1916 with the 12th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Reg No-2086) at the Show Ground Camp, Sydney, N.S.W.
Returned home on the 3rd September 1919, being discharged on the 12th October 1919.
Nothing located on Trove regarding enlistment, returning home, etc.

Mr. Hyde’s name has been inscribed on the St Peters Town Hall First World War Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at Arthur’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
