Wednesday 26th September 1917


Tommies who should have went over on right had not arrived in time to go over so back to the first objective we had to go where we were organised again and advanced towards third objective again in meantime the R.W.F. had arrived, and over they went and made out right flank secure. All that day the artillery fire was something hellish and great difficulty was experienced in getting wounded out about 5 pm the Germans counter attacked they had a momentary success but were soon repulsed again at Black Watch Corner a few of us brought down a German plane with rifle fire he was a game pilot was only about 30 yards up and firing his machine gun at us all the time thus ended the most eventful day of my life and glad I was to get through with a whole skin.
