Son of James and Jean RYAN, 63 Bridge Street, Northcote, Victoria
Mr. James Ryan, of 43 Bridge street, Northcote, received the sorrowful news this week that his son, Private James Harold Ryan, had been killed in action on the 8tn August, 1915. Private Ryan, who previously was reported missing, accompanied the First Expeditionary Force, was wounded in the landing, and after two months in'hospital returned to the trenches at Gallipoli on 2lst June. While recuperating in Egypt he was offered light garrison duty—a permanent position, but being anxious to rejoin his comrades he declined the offer. It is believed that he fell in the Lone Pine battle. The late Private was a photographer by profession, but prior to enlisting he was engaged as clerk at Davies, Dorey, and Co., wholesale tailors.
