Died on this date – 3rd May…… Private James Paul Donovan The summary below was completed by Cathy Sedgwick – Facebook “WW1 Australian War Graves in England/UK/Scotland/Ireland  was born in 1893 at Wauiea, Victoria.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 13th November, 1916 as a 23 year old, married, Horse Driver from Subiaco, Western Australia.

Private James Paul Donovan, Service number 7239, embarked from Fremantle on HMAT Miltiades (A28) on 29th January, 1917 with the 11th Infantry Battalion, 24th Reinforcements & disembarked at Devonport, England on 27th March, 1917.

Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.
He was marched in to 3rd Training Battalion at Durrington, Wiltshire from Australia on 28th March, 1917.

On 24th April, 1917 Private James Paul Donovan was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Durrington, Wiltshire suffering from Influenza & Pneumonia.
Private James Paul Donovan died of Broncho-pneumonia at Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire, England at 3.30 p.m. on 3rd May, 1917.

He was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.

Private James Paul Donovan has a Private Headstone but has the incorrect date of death – 4th May 1917.
