Military Medal
'For great personal bravery and devotion to duty at LIHONS on 11th August 1918. During the heavy counter attack of the enemy Lance Corporal J.H. PRIME set a splendid example to his Lewis Gun crew and kept his gun firing singlehanded under heavy fire after all his men had become casualties. Later his gun was blown out and though wounded he continued to throw bombs and direct the remainder of the small garrison. He was the last man left in the bay but stuck to his post and bombed the enemy inflicting very heavy casualties. He continued single handed until relief came and would not leave until ordered to do so by an officer. He was personally responsible for preventing the enemy entering our trench and set a standard that was admired by all who saw him.'
