16 Apr 1916: Transferred AIF WW1, Private, 4th Pioneer Battalion, transferred to 4 Pnr. Bn. (Pioneer Battalion). The following day, he was listed as being at 7 Tng. Bn. (Training Battalion) at Tel-el-Kebir.
7 Aug 1916: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 3957, 4th Pioneer Battalion, Alexander was wounded in action on 07 August 1916, when he suffered a H.E. (High Explosive) Shell wound to his head. The following day, Alexander was admitted to 4 Gen. Hosp. (General Hospital) at Camiers.
2 Aug 1917: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 3957, 4th Pioneer Battalion, In July 1917, Alexander was on furlough (leave) and returned to his battalion on 02 August 1917.
1 Feb 1918: Discharged AIF WW1, Private, 3957, 4th Pioneer Battalion, On 1 February 1918, Alexander embarked England aboard H.T. “Balmoral Castle” for his return home to be discharged. He arrived at Australia on 28 March 1918 and was discharged from the A.I.F.
