BACK FROM THE WAR.
SINGLETON, .Thursday.— Private A. J. Shaddock-; recently invalided from the front, was on Wednesday night entertained by the members of the local Protestant Alliance Ledge, and presented with framed emblems of the order. At a spread the usual toasts were proposed, and Trooper Shaddock gave an interesting account of his experiences in South Africa. (28 Sep 1900)

Among the returned soldiers to Singleton from the South African War were Messrs. A.J. Shaddock and H. Shepherd.  We note that they have again volunteered for action.   The former served in the Mounted Infantry, and the latter in the Bushmen's Contingent.  While admiring the spririt that prompts these young men to 'dare again in the field', we wish them a short and glorious campaign and a safe return to the district.  Several other volunteers from Singleton and its environs have gone to Sydney to pass the necessary tests. (7 Jan 1902)

WEDDINGS.
St. John's English Church, Wollombi, was the scene of a wedding on the 17th instant, when Miss Martha M'Mullen was married to Mr. A.J. Shaddock, of Redbournberry, Singleton. The bride was  attired in cream silk, with lace and insertion to match, and wore the customary wreath and veil. Miss T. M'Mullen, niece of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, in cream voile, with silk trimmings. She  wore a gold broach, gift of the bridegroom. The bride and brides-maid carried bouquets of flowers. Mr. William Brown acted as best man. After the ceremony refreshments were served at Mr. Jack Campbell's Family Hotel, after which the happy couple left, amid showers of rice and confetti, for Newcastle, where the honeymoon is to be spent, prior to their departure for their new  home in Queensland. The presents were numerous and valuable.

The death occurred in Fairholme Private Hospital to-day of Mr. Arthur John Shaddock, aged 67 years. The deceased succumbed after a short illness. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow, and the remains will be interred in the R.C. cemetery.
