Died on this date – 31st March.... Norman Edwin Sheldon was born at Rangeworthy, Gloucestershire, England in 1897.
Norman Edwin Sheldon & his family came to Australia when he was 14 years old.
Norman Edwin Sheldon enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 8th May, 1917 as a 20 year old Farmer from Perth, Western Australia.
Private Norman Edwin Sheldon embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia on SS Canberra on 23rd November, 1917 & disembarked at Suez on 21st December, 1917. He embarked from Port Said on 9th January, 1918 on H.M.S. Kashgar & disembarked at Taranto on 20th January, 1918. He then disembarked at Southampton, England on 30th January, 1918.
Private Sheldon was marched in to 13th Training Battalion from Australia on 31st January, 1918 where he was to receive further training before being sent to the War Front.
Private Sheldon was sent sick with Scabies to 3rd New Zealand General Hospital at Codford, Wiltshire on 14th March, 1918 & then admitted the same day with German Measles. After convalescence from German Measles he developed Scarlet Fever.
Private Sheldon was transferred to Isolation Hospital, Salisbury, Wiltshire on 26th March, 1918 suffering from Scarlet Fever.
Private Norman Edwin Sheldon died at 5 pm on 31st March, 1918 at Isolation Hospital, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England from Scarlet Fever. Private Sheldon was originally reported to have died from Cerebro Spinal Fever but his records were amended to read cause of death from Scarlet Fever.
The body of Private Norman Edwin Sheldon was claimed by relatives & was buried at 1 pm on 4th April, 1918 in All Saints Cemetery, Maidenhead, Berkshire. He has a Private Headstone.
