1 Feb 1919: Honoured Military Cross, Mont St Quentin / Peronne, For gallantry and skill during the capture of Mont St. Quentin on 1 September 1918 in leading his men in the face of extremely heavy machine gun fire until he had secured important tactical ground, which enabled a second successful attack to be quickly launched. Re-organising his men under the most adverse conditions for the second attack, he daringly carried out the task with a minimum of casualties. Although wounded he remained on duty until the position was secured.
