Distinguished Conduct Medal
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. For three days and nights continuously he tended the wounded, carrying them to the dressing station under intense shell fire, and totally regardless of danger. The battalion's casualties reached 241 and his energy and self-sacrifice were beyond praise.'
