Working as a grocer before the war, 3584 Private (Pte) Edgar Briton Penaluna, of Bendigo, Victoria enlisted in July 1915, and was sent to Egypt as part of the 8th Reinforcements of the 21st Battalion.
He was transferred to the 60th Battalion in February 1916, and arrived in France in June. Pte Penaluna was a signaller with the 60th Battalion when it participated in the Battle of Fromelles.
He was killed by a shell on the night of 19 July 1916 near the Australian positions, and is remembered nearby at VC Corner Cemetery and Memorial.
