William Walter Davis served as a Trooper in the 1st Tasmanian Bushmen during the Boer War. He was one of the first to enlist in Tasmania for WW1. He served at the landing on Gallipoli and suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen on 2 May 1915. He was evacuated to Egypt and died of wounds on the 8 May 1915 in the Deaconess Hospital in Alexandria. He was 45 years of age.
His medals were awarded to his 10-year-old son as William’s wife had died very shortly after the son was born.
