Arthur Johnson served in the Boer War in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushman No.168.He enlisted for WW1 in 1915, as a single man even though he was married at the time to Annie (nee Hamrey) with 4 children.He had told his wife that he was 'looking for work' .This created a huge problem for his wife when claiming a pension for herself and her children,where she had to prove that they were married in 1903.Arthur Johnson was a tall man at 6ft.He was killed in the Battle of Lone Pine on Aug 8th 1915.

Arthur Johnson also served in WW1, Private S.N. 1995, 15th Infantry Battalion AIF. He was killed in action during that service at Gallipoli on 8 Aug 1915. When he enlisted on 18 Jan 1915 he noted on his Attestation Paper his prior service in the Boer War with the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen.
