Forgotten Digger of The Great War resting at Sandgate Cemetery, their Honour and Dignity to be restored (DVA grave).
Private Sidney Francis Markham, also known as Mick, 2nd Battalion & 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion (Reg No-4526), hairdresser and labourer from 426 Botany Road, Botany, New South Wales and 167 Sandgate Road, Birmingham Gardens, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery on the 5th August 1954, age 66. ANGLICAN 2-138. 70.
Enlisted-6.9.1915, (2nd Battalion) Warwick Farm, N.S.W.
Wounded in action - 21.8.1916 (GSW left forearm, mild).
Returned home August 1919.
No headstone.
Wooden cross erected - 1.3.2020.
I submitted an application to DVA June 2022 asking for a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, curbing and marble chip, and this was accepted July 2022.
I will post photos when gravesites have been completed.
