Thorton Douglas Gordon Munn was born in 1895 in Apsley, Victoria. He worked as a grazier on a farm with his father James Munn. He attended the Apsley State School and his religion was The Church of England. Thorton enlisted for the war on the 22nd of July 1915. He served in World War 1 in Egypt on the Western Front in the 5th Battalion, 13th Reinforcement. He embarked on that journey at twenty years old in Melbourne, Victoria on the 29th of December 1915. During the war, Thorton was wounded in action three times. While at War, he was awarded many medals including the Croix de Guerre (Belgium) and the Commonwealth Gazette on July 23rd 1919. Thorton was discharged from the war and died of natural causes on the 30th of September 1976 at 81 years old. He is now buried in the Apsley Cemetery in Victoria.
