"HEROES OF THE GREAT WAR

CHALMERS.—In loving memory of Private Tom McKenzie Chalmers, 27th Battalion, killed in action, November 17, 1916, aged 32 years.

'Midst the roaring of the battle

And the rain of shot and shell,

Fighting for home and country,

He like a soldier fell.

Sadly missed.

R.I.P.—Inserted by his loving sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kate and Will Smith.

CHALMERS.—In loving memory of Private Thomas McKenzie Chalmers, who was killed in action on November 17, 1916.

Sleep on, beloved, thy task at last is o'er,

Thy duty clear for England's cause was done.

Sleep on, beloved, till on that heavenly shore

"Eternal life" awakes and "crown is won."

Sleep on, beloved, beyond this world of pain,

I, too, shall bear no more cross of strife.

But safely rest with thee, when comes again

The crowning days of love through sacrifice. —Inserted by his loving wife and two little girls." - from the Adelaide Advertiser 17 Nov 1917 (nla.gov.au)
