Stanley Ravell was wounded in action by shellfire on the 29 October near Ypres in Belgium. He was admitted to the 1st Casualty Clearing Station in a critical condition with a back wound and died the same day. In his Red Cross file several men said they knew him as ‘Monty’.
His foster brother, Private Michael Noble Smith, who was an adopted child raised by the Ravell family from birth, was killed in action at Fromelles during 1916. Another brother, 16 Company Sergeant Major David Ravell 3rd Battalion AIF, was awarded the Military Medal for his efforts in Belgium during 1916.
