Tom was the eldest of eight children of Thomas Earl Edwards Snr (born 1875 in Wales) and Isabella (Bella) Elizabeth Caldwell (born 1874 at Nerring in Victoria). Thomas Snr was a Gold Miner at Eaglehawk in Bendigo, Victoria when he married Bella in 1898, and they were in Western Australia at Daveytown near Menzies in the Golfields from 1902 to 1906, where Tom Snr was a Gold Miner. The family returned to Bendigo where Tom Snr worked as a Miner until his death in 1930.
Tom was a Labourer at Ironbark near Bendigo when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916. He served as a Private (Service No:2401) with 59th Infantry Battalion and was WiA on two occasions in France. Tom was Discharged in 1919. Brother in Law Hubert Charles Jason (Private; Service No:4118) also served in WWI and Brothers John Henry (Private, Service No:QX10577); William Caldwell (Corporal; Service No:QX10578) and Sidney Edgar (Corporal (Service No:VX47334) served in WWII.
Following his Discharge, Tom worked as an Engine Driver and Labourer in Bendigo, Indi, Echuca and Melbourne. Tom died in 1975
