When Donald D McLeish was born on 25 June 1891 in Yea, Victoria, his father, James, was 30 and his mother, Catherine, was 28. He had two brothers and two sisters. He died on 25 February 1919. at the age of 27, and was buried in Maubeuge, Nord, France.
