Second of three brothers who served in the Army (William, Keith and Nigel) Battery Quartermaster Sergeant enlisted in the AIF on 10 January 1916 as a Gunner, and was attached to 2 Field Artillery Brigade on 14 September 1916 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Plymouth on board HMAT A47 Mashobra. Promoted to Battery Quartermaster Sergeant on 23 December 1916, he served on the Western Front, and embarked from England for Melbourne on 31 May 1919 on board HT Aeneas. BQMS Forsyth was attached to 2 Field Artillery Brigade at Discharge on 28 August 1919.
Keith was born in 1891 in Cooma, New South Wales, third of six children of Adam Forsyth (b1857 in Glencoe, South Australia) and Emily Susannah Fairey Wilcox (b1864 in Gawler, South Australia). Adam was working in Hamilton, Victoria as a Municipal Engineer in 1884 when he and Emily married. They moved to New South Wales, where they raised their family and Adam joined the Civil Service. The family initially lived in Cooma and Goulburn before moving to Sydney. Adam worked for the Lands Department as a Surveyor and Draftsman, and was active in his community - an Alderman on Cooma and Vaucluse Municipal Councils, Mayor of Vaucluse, a senior officer in the Cooma Masonic Lodge, Elder of the Presbyterian Church and involved with Scots Church in Sydney.
Keith was working in Sydney as a Clerk in 1915, and following his Discharge from the Army, in 1919 in Sydney married Enid Gladys Smith (b1890 in Sydney, New South Wales). Keith and Enid settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Keith was an Insurance Broker. In the early 1940s the family moved to Newcastle, where Keith was Manager of the Guardian Assurance Coy Ltd, and a member of the Newcastle RSL and Legacy, and of the Tattersalls Club. Keith died in 1964, and Enid died in 1978.
