Son of Thomas O'Neill and Mary Ann O'Neill nee Toohey of George Street, West Bundaberg, QLD.

Brother of Timothy James O'Neill who was killed in action on 7 Novenber 1917 while serving with the 11th Light Horse Regiment. Buried in the Gaza War Cemetery, Plot X11, Row E, Grave 2; John Alphonsus O'Nelll who returned to Australia on 17 February 1919 having served with the 42nd Battalion.
