Died on this date - 8th October.....Private Daniel William Gleadhill was born in 1881 at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 18th August, 1915 as a 33 year old Miner from Liverpool, NSW. He was discharged as physically unfit on 19th August, 1915 - pigeon chested.

Daniel Gleadhill re-enlisted on 28th October, 1915 as a 34 year old, single, Labourer from Pyrmont, Sydney, NSW. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT Berrima (A35) on 12th December, 1915 & was transferred from 19th Battalion to 2nd Battalion on 14th February, 1916 at Tel-el-Kebir.

Private Gleadhill embarked for Overseas from Alexandria on Troop Ship Ivernia on 22nd March, 1916. He disembarked at Marseilles, France on 28th March, 1916.

Private Daniel Gleadhill was wounded in action in France on 22nd July, 1916. He was invalided to England on Hospital Ship Gloucester Castle & admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, England on 27th July, 1916. Private Gleadhill was discharged on 29th September, 1916. He was posted to No. 1 Command Depot on 30th September, 1916 then transferred to Wareham on 30th October, 1916.
(Note: There are no entries in the Service Record file between 30th October, 1916 until 9th October, 1917).

Private Gleadhill proceeded overseas to France from Fovant, via Southampton on 9th October, 1917. He rejoined his Unit on 15th October, 1917.

Private Gleadhill was sent to 2nd Australian Field Ambulance on 10th January, 1918 with Trench Feet. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Newhaven & admitted to 1st Western General Hospital, Fazakerley, Liverpool, England on 1st February, 1918. He was discharged to furlo & then reported to No. 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, Wiltshire on 30th April, 1918.

Private Gleadhill was sent sick to No. 2 Group Hospital at Hurdcott on 5th October, 1918 then transferred & admitted to Military Hospital, Fovant, Wiltshire on 6th October, 1918, seriously ill with Pneumonia.

Private Daniel Gleadhill died at 8.35 am on 8th October, 1918 at Military Hospital, Fovant, Wiltshire, England from Pneumonia. He was buried in St George’s Churchyard, Fovant, Wiltshire, England where 43 other WW1 Australian Soldiers are buried.
