While living in Australia he worked with H.J. Burton, builders of Quirindi, NSW for 5 years learning the building trade. Burton said that he had first met Nicholas when the latter was humping his swag
Son of Henry and Mary Cosgrove of Wellington, NZ. Next of kin given as his sister Martha Josephine Parks nee Cosgrove of 'Radnor', Darling Point, NSW.
Brother of William Francis Cosgrove who returned to Australia on 13 April 1919 having served with the 25th Battalion and Genevieve Cosgrove of Rozelle,
