Raid on Celtic Wood
Sergeant Huppatz was recorded on the 13 October Field Return as wounded on 8 October 1917. He was treated at 3rd Field Ambulance on 9 October for a penetrating ‘GSW’ to the abdomen then transported to 2nd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station with ‘GSW abdomen’.
He was evacuated to England where in early November he was admitted to Tooting Military Hospital with ‘GS abdomen severe’. Given the battalion was in no action on 8 October the only way “Ted” Huppatz could have received a gunshot wound to the abdomen would have been during the raid. Even if in the unlikely event he was wounded on Broodseinde Ridge the day before the raid, it would not have taken the medics until 9 Ocotber to have him treated at 3rd Field Ambulance.
