75 years ago today, on the Saturday morning of the 29th June 1946, Private George Scott Milford, 18th Battalion (Reg No-1970), shunter and hairdresser from 213 Hunter Street, Newcastle, New South Wales and 243 Hunter Street, Newcastle, N.S.W. and Mayfield, N.S.W. and Wangi, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 65. ANGLICAN 1-18. 109.

Born at Armidale, New South Wales on the 11th December 1880 to George Francis and Annie Milford; husband of Elsie May Milford nee Linton (married 1918, Newcastle, N.S.W., died 1947, sleeping same location), George enlisted June 1915 as a widower (married Annie Milford nee Helyard 1903, Newcastle, N.S.W. died 1912, sleeping same location), father of two, (Edward and Jean), at Liverpool, N.S.W.
Admitted to hospital 6.2.1916 (septic mouth), 20.5.1916 (double-headed pterygia), 24.11.1916 (myalgia), George returned home July 1917, being discharged medically unfit (chronic rheumatism) on the 1st August 1917.

Mr. Milford’s name has been inscribed on the Tighes Hill Public School Honor Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies on George’s headstone in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King and Country.

Service record states Died War Service 28.6.1948.
Younger brother Henry (Harry) E (3rd Battalion, Reg No-4528, DOW 27.7.1916) memorialised at the cemetery. ANGLICAN 1-44. 26.
