Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Riverine Grazier (Hay, NSW) 7 September 1917. ‘Mr C. Vincent, of Church Street Hay, has received word that his brother, Gunner W. N. Vincent, was killed in action in France on August 23rd. Gunner Vincent, who was only 19 years of age, enlisted two years ago from Narrandera. He was well known In Hay and Carrathool districts and his friends will regret to learn of his death while doing his duty to his King and country.’
From his Red Cross Wounded and Missing file, ‘Vincent-known as Bill, was in my subsection when he was killed in the gun pit at our position in front of Zillebeke, on 23 August 1917. He was killed outright. He was brought down and buried at Reninghelst and I was at his burial on 24 August. He was the best gunner we had in the battery, game for anything. He might have done anything, but he never would take the stripes.’ Bombardier N.E. Lilleman
