Wyndham Alan SOMERSET was born in 1890 in Melbourne, Victoria

His parents were Henry Calthorpe SOMERSET & Bertha Clothilde REILLY - his Father was born in Bombay, India and his Mother in Mauritius

He enlisted in Liverpool, NSW on 6th April, 1915 as a Private with the 19th Battalion, C Company & embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ceramic on 25th June, 1915 - he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 19th August, 1916

He was wounded in the knee on 14th November, 1916 at Fleurs and reported as missing - later changed to Killed in Action - no known grave but it was said he was buried near Fleurs

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Villers Bretonneux Memorial

He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal

Wyndhams father Henry Calthorpe SOMERSET also served in the Army in an English regiment and gained the rank of Captain with the 2nd Battalion (Buffs) & was also a Staff Officer of Cadets at Melbourne, Victoria - his brother Henry George Fitzroy SOMERSET also served in WW1 and was a Lieutenant with the 4th Battalion (SN1294)  He returned to Australia and died in 1958.

Lieutenant Wyndham Alan Somerset, dearly beloved son of the late Major H.C. Somerset and Mrs. Somerset and brother of Lieutenant H.G.F. Somerset, Mrs. Margot Hibbard and Violet Somerset.
