Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of James and Emma Jane Sheen, of Somerset, Illowa, Victoria, Australia.

ONE OF GOD'S FRIENDS GONE HOME

Mr. James Sheen, Illowa, has received a telegram from head-quarters (throuh the Rev. W. Reed) as follows:-"Officially reported, 2774 Pte. Albert Sheen dead, 5/10/17, from gunshot wound left thigh and fractured femur, at 2nd Australian General Hospital."

The late Pte. Sheen was 24 years of age, and, with his brother, George, sailed for the front on 25th October, 1915. Both were wounded at Pozieres in July, 1916. Albert was afterwards able to return to duty, and George had his right leg amputated, and was sent home some time ago. Much sympathy, writes our Koroit correspondent, is felt for Mr. and Mrs. Sheen and family in their sad loss.

SHEEN—In sad but loving memory of our dear son, Private Albert Sheen, No. 2774, died of wounds received in France, on the 25th October, 1917, after 2 years and 3 months  service.
The midnight stars are shining,
On a grave I cannot see;
Where sleeping without dreaming,
Lies the one so dear to me.
No matter how we pray, dear Bert,
No matter how we call;
There's nothing left to answer,
But your photo on the wall.
—(Inserted by his loving father and mother).

SHEEN.—In loving memory of my dear brother, Private A. Sheen, No. 2774, died of wounds oh 25th October, 1917.
No loving mother's gentle hand,
To wipe the death dew from his brow;
No token of love in that far off land,
To mark the spot where he sleepeth now.
No loved ones stood around him,
To bid a fond farewell;
No word of comfort could we give,
To him we loved so well.
—Inserted by his loving brother, George (returned).

SHEEN.—In sad but loving memory of our dear brother; Private A. Sheen, No. 2774, died of wounds, on 25th October, 1917.
Gone dear brother, yes, gone for ever,
Gone from the world of sorrow and pain ;
Gone from sisters who loved you so dearly,
Never on earth to meet you again.
A more loving brother ne'er dwelt on
this earth,
Who proved to his sisters a true
brother's worth.
—Inserted by his sorrowing sisters (Lil and May).

SHEEN.—In sad and loving memory of our dear brother, Pte. Albert Sheen, who died of wounds on the 25th of October.
His pleasant ways and cheerful smile
Are pleasant to recall,
He had a cheery word for each,
And died beloved by all.
In a soldier's grave he lies sleeping,
One of earth's bravest and best.
In our hearts we shall miss him for ever,
Though we know he is only at rest.
[Inserted by his brother and sister in-law and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Sheen.]

SHEEN.—In sad and loving memory of our dear brother, Pte. Albert Sheen, who died of wounds on October 25th.
He sleeps not in his native land,
But under foreign skies,
Far from those who loved him,
In a hero's grave he lies.
[Inserted by his brothers, Henry, William and David.]

SHEEN—In sad and loving memory of Pte. Albert Sheen, who died of wounds at 1st Australian General Hospital, France, on 25th October, 1917.
A soldier, yes, and a hero too,
He played a man's part through and through;
His actions speak, though his voice is still,
Forget him, no, we never will.
—(Inserted by his sorrowing cousin, Nell Hussey.)
