Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Nicholas John Philipson was the son of William and Margaret Philipson, of Black Jack, Charters Towers, Queensland. Prior to the war he worked for the ED Miles Mining Exchange in Charters Towers.

His younger brother, 6601 Pte. Harland Philipson 26th Battalion AIF, died of wounds almost 12 months later to the day, on 27 December 1917, aged 25.

Nicholas enlisted in mid-1915 with the 25th Battalion and struggled with the discipline from his time of arrival in Egypt, being awarded six months imprisonment for striking a Sergeant.

He was sent to France during September 1916 and was transferred to the 9th Battalion. He was killed in action three days after Christmas 1916.
