Son of Samuel Uren and Jane Ann Uren nee Donald of Newington Road, Stawell, Victoria. Brother of Samuel John Donald Uren who returned to Australia on 19 June 1916 having served with the 18th Battalion.

9 August 1915 - enlisted at Melbourne, Victoria, with the 14th Battalion and with the rank of Private.

6 March 1917 - promoted to Lance Corporal

11 April 1917 - taken Prisoner of War at Bapaume and internat at Reitschule, Soltau, Hanover, Germany. Repatriated to England on 26 December 1918.

On 5 September 1919 Frank married Maude Elizabeth Bryant in the United Methodist Church, Bath, England. Richard Wilton officiated.

18 December 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard Konigin Luise diembarking on 4 February 1920

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

20 March 1920 - discharged at the 3rd Military District
