James Gormley, son ofa Butcher, was living at 196 Waymouth Street Adelaide at the time of his enlistment. James was single and stood 5'10" (178cm) tall, weighing 151lbs (69kg) with medium complexion, brown eyes and dark hair.
After the Armistice, while still in England, James was given leave on fll pay to attend a three month training course in paint and lead manufacturing with civilain firm Locke Lancaster & Co, lead smeltersand Vickers Ltd. Naval Construction Yards. James eventually returned to Australia where he was discharged.
On 24 October 1925 he married a widow Elizabeth Ann Baird (nee Forby), who was six years his senior.
He died at the age of 77 and was buried with his wife who had died in 1957.
