Beaumont left Adelaide on board HMAT Geelong on 31 May 1915. He was sent to France with the 27th Battalion on 15 March 1916 where he fought prior to going to Belgium on 7 October. He returned to France with his unit in 1917 and was hospitalised for a fortnight in July before rejoining his unit on 26 July. Beaumont sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh on 20 September which necessitated being sent to Birmingham War Hospital, England for treatment. The severity of his wound resulted in him being returned to Australia on the Osterley on 31 January 1918 and discharged as medically unfit on 29 April.
