An Original Anzac who served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

53 years ago today, on the 21st September 1971, Private George Albert Fearn, 11th Battalion (Reg No-1126), lumper from Belmont, Western Australia and 259 Charlestown Road, Charlestown, N.S.W. (1967) and Newcastle?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 78. BAPTIST-L NW. 8.

Born at Beaconsfield, Western Australia about 1893 to William Alfred and Sarah Fearn nee Steel; husband of Winifred Elizabeth Fearn nee Leeke, married 10.10.1916, St. Barnabas's Anglican Church, West Leederville, Perth, Western Australia, died 1.10.1974, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 81, sleeping here, George enlisted on the 10th September 1914 at Blackboy Hill, Western Australia.

Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on the 22nd December 1914.

Admitted to hospital 27.3.1915 (enteritis), 14.6.1915 (dental trouble), 5.7.1915 (knee injury), 31.10.1915 (influenza), 5.3.1916 (scabies, mild), 8.4.1916 (displaced left knee cartilage).

Wounded in action - 29.6.1915 (knee injury, slight).

George arrived home on the 15th June 1916, being discharged medically unfit (loose cartilage, left knee) on the 3th August 1916.

Mr. Fearn’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at George’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
