72 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 11th January 1951, Farrier Sergeant Ralfred Stanley Vesper, referred to as Stan, 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Reg No-1528), groom and loco driver from Logan Street, Tenterfield, New South Wales and Henry Street, Werris Creek, N.S.W. and Mossman Street, Armidale, N.S.W. and 6 Holt Street, Mayfield East, N.S.W., father of 3 sons and 4 daughters, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 55. PRESBYTERIAN-A14. 14.

Name misspelt as Alfred on Sandgate Cemetery database.

Born at Grafton, New South Wales on the 23rd October 1895 to John Louis  and Isabella Vesper nee Battersby; husband of Ivy Kathleen Vesper nee Dell (married 3.1.1923, Armidale, N.S.W., died 1972, sleeping at CATHOLIC 2-32. 29.), Stan enlisted September 1915 at Armidale, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 2.11.1915 (mumps), 25.11.1916 (influenza and pyrexia - increased body temperature above normal body temperature), 30.11.1915 (pneumonia).

Stan returned home on the 3rd August 1919, being discharged on the 25th September 1919.

Mr. Vesper’s name has been inscribed on the East Tenterfield Progress Association First World War Roll of Honour. Member of Court Hunter No-4583 Ancient Order Of Foresters'. Not known if name has been inscribed on its Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at Stan’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Stan also served with the 32nd (NSW) Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC, Service No-N470173, enlisted 17.2.1944, Newcastle, N.S.W., discharged 30.9.1945).

Older brother Robert James (Bob, 54th Battalion & 5th Australian Machine Gun Battalion, Reg No-3255, enlisted 9.10.1916, born 3.3.1894, Grafton, New South Wales, died 7.4.1967, St Leonards, N.S.W.) also served 1st A.I.F.
