Andrew was awarded a Military Medal
“On the 7th and 8th June, 1917, during the operations south of Messines for his untiring energy and devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer. He was badly gassed prior to the launching of the attack on the enemy's positions, but went forward with his Company, and worked continuously for a period of 48 hours under heavy shell fire. He displayed great courage and determination throughout. He had on a previous occasion volunteered and brought in a wounded comrade from the enemy wire and had also done excellent work whilst under heavy enemy artillery fire.”
His brother was also decorated for bravery, 6578 Private John James Woodhouse D.C.M. 37th Battalion AIF, who died of wounds 2 October 1918. Age 22.
Another brother 1114 Sergeant Percy Woodhouse also served with the 37th Battalion and was discharged in England, 25 November 1919.
