On Saturday night a send-off was tendered to Private Gus Gallagher, son of Mr and Mrs Larry Gallagher, of Kings Flat.
His friends had not sufficient notice to enable them to have a wristlet watch ready to present to the departing soldier, but they did the next best thing, they handed Private Gallagher an amount of money that will enable him to purchase a watch for himself, or some other article that he may prefer - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article166786995.
The money was presented to Private Gallagher by Mr Howard Moylan, on behalf of the subscribers. Various speeches were made, and altogether a happy time was spent. Mr Thomas Berriman was secretary to the movement.
Older brother John Arthur (Reg No-5072, 62nd Battalion, born 1891, died 1962) also served 1st A.I.F.
