He was a Grazier of "Dunmoor" Strathdownie.

Described on enlisting as 28 years old; single; 5' 6 3/4" tall; 142 lbs;
fair-sandy complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair; Church of England.
 

15/7/1915     completed medical in Casterton - fit for service
                     requested to re examine in Melbourne on 24/7/1915

24/7/1915      enlisted in the AIF in Melbourne

9/12/1915      Commanding Officer appointed Vernon to the
                      13th reinforcements, 14th Battalion

29/12/1915    embarked from Melbourne on board the HMAT A64 Demosthenes
                      as a Private, 14th Battalion, 13th reinforcements

16/3/1916      Transferred to 12th Field Artillery Brigade, Tel-El-Kebir, Egypt

31/3/1916      Attached to 4th Divisional Artillery Head Quarters
